Successful Workshop of Protein Biotechnology
As part of the project The Advanced Protein Biotechnology Consortium: A Model for Fostering Economic Growth and Mitigating Brain Drain in Eastern Slovakia (APBC), project code 09I02-03-V01-00021, a specialist Workshop on Protein Biotechnology was held on 31 August and 1 September 2026 at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Biosciences, Technology and Innovation Park, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (CIB TIP-UPJŠ), under the auspices of the project’s principal investigator, Prof. RNDr. Erik Sedlák, DrSc.
The programme featured six expert lectures covering the full spectrum of protein research - from understanding molecular mechanisms and protein structures to the design of expression systems, protein production, purification and quality control, as well as proteomic analysis, the development of diagnostic antigens and the use of biomarkers to monitor treatment efficacy.
Daniel Rozbeský, Miroslav Marcin, Diana Hopková, Rostislav Škrabana, Jozef Hanes and Zdenko Levarski shared their expertise and experience with the participants. Representing Slovak and Czech research institutions, the speakers presented not only the theoretical principles underlying the individual methods, but also specific examples of their application in biomedical research and diagnostics.
The workshop provided a platform for sharing the latest scientific knowledge, engaging in expert discussion and fostering collaboration among researchers from different institutions and disciplines. It also gave students and early-career researchers a broader understanding of the potential of modern protein biotechnology and of the journey from fundamental protein research to practical applications.
