CIB Hosted a Young Researcher from the Institute of Molecular Biology, Slovak Academy of Sciences
From June 14 to July 8, 2026, the Centre for Interdisciplinary Biosciences TIP at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University hosted Sidra Ishrat - PhD student from the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava. During her research stay, she worked under the supervision of Mgr. Ľuboš Ambro, PhD. on the expression and purification of bacterial DNA polymerases from the model organism Bacillus subtilis. The purified proteins will be used to investigate the biological roles of G-quadruplex (G4) DNA structures, their impact on DNA replication and gene expression, and their potential as novel genetic regulatory elements. The research contributed to a better understanding of fundamental cellular processes and laid the groundwork for future applications in biotechnology, industrial microbiology, and medicine.
