Participation in the International INSTRUCT Course in Brno
From 7 to 11 September 2026, the international specialist course entitled INSTRUCT Course on Calorimetric and Spectroscopic Characterization of Biomolecules was held at CEITEC Masaryk University in Brno. Our colleague Mgr. Mária Tomková, PhD, from the Center for Interdisciplinary Biosciences at the Technology and Innovation Park of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (CIB TIP-UPJŠ), also participated in the event.
The course focused on advanced calorimetric and spectroscopic methods used for the characterization of biomolecules. Expert lectures provided the participants with the theoretical background required to investigate the structure, stability and interactions of biomolecules. The theoretical sessions were complemented by hands-on training using state-of-the-art instruments, during which the participants had the opportunity to learn individual experimental procedures and further develop their skills in analysing and interpreting the data obtained. The integration of theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory work also enabled the participants to gain a deeper understanding of both the capabilities and limitations of the individual analytical methods. The course also included expert discussions and the exchange of experience with lecturers and participants from various research institutions.
The knowledge and practical experience acquired during the course will contribute to the further development of protein research at CIB TIP-UPJŠ. Participation in the event also helped to broaden professional expertise, establish new scientific contacts and strengthen international collaboration in the field of biomolecular research.
Participation in the course was funded by the project The Advanced Protein Biotechnology Consortium: A Model for Fostering Economic Growth and Mitigating Brain Drain in Eastern Slovakia (APBC), project code 09I02-03-V01-00021. The principal investigator for UPJŠ in Košice and the project coordinator is Prof. RNDr. Erik Sedlák, DrSc. (CIB TIP-UPJŠ).
