CIB hosted Erasmus+ student from Charles University
The Center for Interdisciplinary Biosciences set up its laboratory for doctoral student Taras Vasylyshyn from Charles University in Prague. Taras was hosted by Dr. Huntošová’s group as a part of the collaboration between CIB and Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry at Czech Academy of Sciences on project Breast cancer organoid on a chip for fluorescence lifetime imaging of autophagy and apoptosis induced by targeted treatment with designed ankyrin repeat protein supported by EU NextGenerationEU through the Recovery and Resilience Plan for Slovakia under the project No. 09I03-03-V04-00007.
During 10. – 23. February 2025, Taras participated in the preparation and biophysical characterisation of DARPin-modified upconverting nanoparticles for targeted delivery of photosensitizers. The new constructs were analysed by fluorescence imaging of HER2 receptor-expressing cells.

Taras’ stay was part of the Erasmus+ programme, an inter-institutional research training programme established between the UPJŠ in Košice and Charles University in Prague. He was trained in spectroscopic and microscopic techniques as well as in basic molecular biology approaches to study the cellular response to photodynamic treatment.
The Visegrad Fund gave Taras the opportunity to present his research to members of the CIB and the Department of Biophysics at a regular seminar organised by the Departments.

This visit strengthened the cooperation between the groups of Dr. Huntošová (UPJŠ) and Dr. Horák (CAS). The results of their long-term collaboration on the upconversion of nanoparticles were recently published in the journal Nanoscale.

Prestigious Award from the Scientific Journal Physical Review E (PRE)

This prestigious distinction is awarded to publications that the editors consider exceptionally significant, original, and impactful within their respective scientific fields. The awarded paper, entitled “Nonreciprocal Dynamics in a Quasi-1D System: From River Shrimps to the Ising Model”, confirms the high quality of the research and its substantial contribution to the advancement of scientific knowledge in the field of theoretical physics.
