Novel Trends in chemistry, research and education

CIB members attended the chemical conference and were awarded

On 21 November 2025, the Novel Trends in chemistry, research and education – yearly organized chemical conference was organized at the Institute of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, UPJŠ in Košice.

Every year, this conference connects researchers, educators, and students, fosters the exchange of expertise, and creates an inspiring environment for new ideas and collaborative development.

Prof. Erik Sedlák participated in the panel discussion “Institute of Chemistry at the Center of Project Opportunities”, featuring the coordinators of two successful projects funded through the Recovery Plan for research and innovation (project APBC, focused on biotechnology development).

This year, four of CIB young researchers presented their excellent scientific results in form of poster:

  • Kristína Felčíková - Development of LOV2 domain as genetically encoded photosensitizer

  • Nikitas Georgiou - Molecular docking study of novel pyrrolidine derivatives as multi-target modulators

  • Andersen Herman - Photodynamic therapy using UiO-66-based metal-organic frameworks (MOF) as photosensitizer carriers for breast cancer and antibacterial applications

  • Alexandra Poliaková - Functional targeted delivery of flavin mononucleotide by DARPin and AsLOV2 C450A protein to breast cancer cells

Part of the conference was a competition for the best poster presentation. This year the Best Poster Award was given to work of Alexandra Poliaková.

We are delighted to receive this recognition for our work and believe it will also motivate other young scientists at CIB!

The results presented in the conference were achieved during implementation of supported by the EU NextGenerationEU through the Recovery and Resilience Plan for Slovakia under project number 09I03-03-V04-00007 (BCOrgFluorIDA – PI Dr. V. Huntošová) and 09I02-03-V01-00021 (APBC – PI prof. E. Sedlák).
