CIB supports young scientific talents at the AMAVET competition
On 17 October 2025, the regional round of the AMAVET Science and Technology Festival – a competitive exhibition of scientific and technical projects by primary and secondary school students – took place at the Jesenna 5/Park Angelinum 9 campus of the Faculty of Science, UPJŠ in Košice, under the auspices of the Dean of the Faculty. The competitors presented their research activities through panel and poster presentations.
Eliza Koščová (Janka Francisci-Rimavského High School in Levoča), a talented young researcher, participated in the 28th annual competition of science projects for primary and secondary school students with a project entitled: “Potential of environmentally safe porous microparticles for brain tumor treatment“.
Eliza Koščová and her mentors Mgr. Bibiána Komarová (Janka Francisci-Rimavského High School in Levoča) and RNDr. Veronika Huntošová PhD. (CIB).
The scientific work of E. Koščová was carried out at CIB under the supervision of RNDr. Veronika Huntošová, PhD.. Eliza investigated the applicability of MOFs for photosensitizer delivery into glioblastoma for photodynamic therapy. In the context of ecological safety, the effect of MOFs on the germination of watercress was monitored.
This work resulted from the collaborative efforts of the groups led by Dr. V. Huntošová and assoc. prof. M. Almáši within the interdisciplinary project BCOrgFluorIDA, supported by the EU NextGenerationEU through the Recovery and Resilience Plan for Slovakia under project number 09I03-03-V04-00007.
Eliza succeeded and will continue to present her work in the national AMAVET round, which will take place in Bratislava.
We are keeping our fingers crossed for Eliza and will follow her future successes in scientific research!
