Kick-off Meeting Launches the CAMO3E Project

Kick-off Meeting Launches the CAMO3E Project

On 15 October 2026, the kick-off meeting of the research team of the CAMO3E project, Advanced Imaging in the Early Diagnosis of Esophageal Tumours, took place at the Center for Interdisciplinary Biosciences, Technology and Innovation Park, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, at Jesenná 5. The meeting was coordinated by the project’s scientific lead, RNDr. Veronika Huntošová, PhD.

The purpose of the kick-off meeting was to present the project’s scientific focus, timeline, planned outputs, and the responsibilities of individual research team members. The discussion focused primarily on integrating the biological model, targeted multimodal probes, advanced imaging methods, and the analysis of imaging and biological data into a unified workflow.

The project’s main scientific objective is to develop and validate the 3DEsoCAM preclinical model of esophageal cancer, designed to verify hybrid imaging approaches and identify early pathological changes.

An important component of the project is the development of long-term scientific collaboration between the Center for Interdisciplinary Biosciences, Technology and Innovation Park, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, and the Center for Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering at the Medical University of Vienna. The joint activities will focus on the transfer of methodologies, standardisation of procedures, validation of imaging protocols, and preparation of follow-up European research cooperation.

The project’s planned outputs also include the establishment of a consortium to prepare a follow-up EU project. The kick-off meeting established a common framework for coordinating the scientific, technical, and administrative activities required to achieve these objectives.

The CAMO3E project, code 401101F618, is implemented by Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice from 1 July  2026 to 30 June 2028.

The project Advanced Imaging in the Early Diagnosis of Esophageal Tumours (code: 401101F618) is co-financed by the European Union under the Programme Slovakia.
