- Synthesis of fluorescent probes and reactive oxygen species (ROS) sensors - including aminophenyl fluorescein (APF) and nitrophenyl fluorescein (NPF)

Aminophenyl-fluorescein (APF) is used as a cell-permeable and photostable probe. APF is designed for the selective detection of highly reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (hROS and hRNS), in particular hypochlorite (OClˉ), hydroxyl radicals (HO- ), and peroxynitrite (ONOOˉ), as opposed to only minimally reactive forms such as H₂O₂, O₂ˉ- , NO, ¹O₂, and ROO-.

Nitrophenyl fluorescein (often referred to as “p‑nitrophenyl fluorescein” or nitrophenyl derivatives of fluorescein) is used mainly as a substrate or reporter group in enzymatic and bioanalytical assays, where a chemical transformation changes its absorbance/fluorescence and thereby signals enzyme activity or the presence of a specific compound.
Laboratory of Protein Engineering
The laboratory is equipped with key instrumentation for molecular biology experiments, including a PCR thermocycler (Eppendorf Mastercycler X50S) and a PCR workstation (Biosan). It features systems for agarose gel electrophoresis (Bio-Rad PowerPac HC), a UV transilluminator (Herolab) for DNA visualization, a refrigerated centrifuge (Eppendorf 5424 R), and thermomixers (Eppendorf, Biosan), enabling efficient sample separation and controlled incubation of prepared samples.
Laboratory of Biotechnology and Cell Physiology
The laboratory employs cellular models and advanced analytical techniques to investigate the expression, localization, and biological activity of recombinant proteins. Using confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, spectroscopic methods, and metabolic analyses, we evaluate protein–cell interactions, stability, cytotoxicity, and functional properties within biological systems.
