CIB Brought the Future of Proteins Closer at the European Researchers’ Night in Košice
On 25 September 2026, the Centre for Interdisciplinary Biosciences (TIP-CIB) at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (UPJŠ) took part in the Night of Science held at the Optima shopping centre in Košice. At its stand, entitled “AI Designs, Humans Decide: The Future of Proteins,” CIB introduced visitors to the world of modern protein engineering.
Children and adults alike had the opportunity to explore how biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence come together in protein research and design. They also learned why an AI-generated protein design is not the final result. Its properties and biological relevance must be assessed by scientists and validated experimentally.
Visitors could take part in interactive activities, ask questions, and engage in discussions directly with members of the CIB team. The event brought science beyond the laboratory and highlighted the opportunities that protein research can offer in medicine and biotechnology.
The key scientist behind the presented topic was Prof. RNDr. Erik Sedlák, DrSc. CIB was further represented at the event by members of its research team and doctoral students: Ing. Lucia Nagyová, Mgr. Ľuboš Ambro, PhD, RNDr. Mária Repovská, PhD, Mgr. Yaroslava Lopushanska, RNDr. Michal Nemergut, PhD, RNDr. Ivana Timková, PhD, RNDr. Kristína Felčíková, Mgr. Alexandra Poliaková, and Mgr. Zuzana Voskárová.
